RFX makes my E4XT Ultra crash!??

hello,
i just got an RFX-32 card and tried installing it in my fairly new E4XT Ultra. the unit came w/ EOS 4.7 pre-installed, but after installing the RFX card,EOS simply freezes within a few minutes of being powered up...i let the sampler sit frozen for ten minutes or more to see if it was just going slow, no solution.
so Emu tech support says to downgrade to 4.61, that my pre-installed 4.7 is some kind of "EOS bastard child" that should have never been released. so 4.61 crashes frequently the same, not by freezing like in 4.7, but with "Gen Trap" errors coming up shortly after getting into an RFX screen.
i've tried:
1. taking the unit to another house w/ a different power circuit, no solution.
2. installing the RFX card in another unit, works fine.
3. taking out the RFX card, 4.61 and 4.7 work fine w/o it.
i'm lost. anyone got any ideas? experienced this before?

whats up dugawug? do not use 4.7 w the rfx card installed, they do not work at all together. at least not for me
my sampler did nothing but freeze freeze and freeze. my sampler still crashes here and there with 4.61 but i've learned to live with it and save my work as much as possible. it might crash about once every second sitting in the studio. usually after hours of use (?). i've also got the famous gen trap error messages with this os but it seems like the more i've used my sampler after reinstalling 4.61 the less it crashes. it used to crash every day even twice or three times in one session, but like i said i've learned to live with it and it seems its fixing itself? (i don't know, i'm confused too). this doesn't piss me off too much cause i got the card for fairly cheap ($270). who knows maybe emu knows they're fucked and just want to get rid of them
. u also said that the card works fine in other units... how long did you use it for in the other units?...what os was in it? easy

thanks for the reply locuss.
see, what i don't understand is that i've heard of several other people running RFX under 4.7 w/ no problem. why should you or I experience freezing on 4.7 and crashes on 4.61? i plan to use this thing on stage, and CANNOT risk my hardware OS crashing on stage. i mean, that's why i don't consider using software!
funny, i bought my card also for cheap ($250 i think). while i bought it completely unused, it seems it was originally purchased almost 3 years ago. maybe there have been RFX revisions and mine is some old card?
i dunno, the guy who i bought it from runs 4.7 w/ RFX no problem. he stuck my card in his machine, no problem.
I'M F&CKING CONFUSED!!??
Anyone else experience freezing w/ RFX and 4.7? Or more optimistically, can someone out there tell me they run RFX w/ 4.7 and DONT get freezing?
Man, somedays I wonder why I switched from Kurzweil to EMU.
(sigh)

dugawug, i think if other people are running the rfx card with 4.7 without any problems we should fly to Cali and blow up emu HQ...u down? seriously though, if your gonna be using this shit live you can't have something so unreliable on stage. i've had these loud outburst as well, i couldn't imagine what it would sound like in a club, everyones ears would be bleading
. even if it crashes on stage how embarrasing would that be for yourself and emus rep! easy

locuss,
i'm down bro, i already live in Cali, so i'll be waiting for ya with a full clip.
no serious, i don't understand it. talking w/ EMU tech support, they wanna tell me it's the card i bought. i think something else is going on here...what, i don't know? what pisses me off is that they're pretty well abandoning fixes for their hardware stuff like this. you know they're releasing software next year? all their hardware stuff they couldn't give a f&ck about anymore.

OK, CM_LOCUSS, i think i just found out what we can do to stop our freezing/crashing problem...hell, if this ends up really working you could even move to 4.7 w/o a crash! seriously, listen up...
a guy Chris, aka Klaseed on this forum, was super kind to me and let me troubleshoot my E4's/RFX card at his place while subbing out and testing his RFX card in my unit.
THE CONCLUSION:
well, with my RFX card apparently not being the issue, we suspected I just had a fucked motherboard...but what we finally tried as a last resort was subbing out the D-RAM. this is the RAM piece behind your display (not the flash ROM chip, but right behind that). this is the RAM that your E4 uses for everything but samples. we subbed out the little 8MB SIMM for a different one and fucking believe it or not, it stopped crashing! even on 4.7!! it used to freeze like crazy on 4.7, now nothing! BOTH my units had this problem and BOTH stopped freezing/crashing after replacing this program RAM slot. must be some units w/ BUNK D-RAM!! i'm going to test around w/ it some more tomorrow, but i'm 99% sure it's fixed.
CM_LOCUSS, i highly recommend you try this...it should fix your problem as it sounds identical to mine.
let me know how it goes!
WOO-HOO...a fucking E4 i can finally use!!!
