You have the whole kit there, as I remember this kit included EOS update + the 128 Voice Upgrade-board ? The latter you probably could self-install, but Flash-Ram... I would not risk it.
There is no installation instruction regarding Flash-Ram upgrade, or at least not for the normal customer but service-centers.
Updating an E4k was a factory install as stated on the first page of the update papers. I bought the EOS 4 update back then for my E4k I still have (only because I bought it brandnew and don't want to sell for "nothing"), just to realize the above mentioned facts when I got it (nobody told me before)
, so my machine is still on EOS 3.0b. So you had to either send it to E-mu or an authorized E-mu repair center in your country. As E-mu stated this is a delicate job only for pro technicians, they warned that doing it wrong can/will damage the sampler, you need to de-solder the old Flash-Ram Chips and then solder the new chips in, they are soldered directly onto the motherboard.
