it was all fine and then one day....

hey guys, been a while since my last post. hope all is well

so, one day a few weeks ago, i go power up the sampler (emu e4x) and it doesn't detect the hd.. i check out the id's etc, everything is as it always is, mount and still not detected. then i disconnect the scsi cable from the emu to my computer, and the hd is recognized on the next boot. sounds like a scsi id issue, but the odd thing is, that i didn't change any settings at all (im certain of it) and nothing changed on the computer (i only use this computer to access the sampler via scsi, nothing else)

here's my settings

- 18 gb seagate hd, ide -> scsi adapter -> to emu mobo. jumper on id 1 for scsi id
- emu local set to id 3, scsi termination on,
- connected via scsi to adaptec scsi card on a win xp sp3 machine

if anyone has had this problem, or has any ideas, please let me know. ive been scratching my head, trying to sort it but i can't figure it out. the scsi adapter for the hard drive has 2 jumper settings for the id, 0 and 1. Can't use 0, because im pretty sure that is what the adaptec card is on..

cheers,

?
You talking about the internal HD or an external HD ?
What termination did you mean.? ...and why ?
The EOS and the Ide and/or SCSI has nothing do to within conversation.....?!.

Try to limit the Problem only to your E-Mu and the HD.
External SCSI HD and Chassis has some "Whims" after long time not using. ( Just unplug terminator ...or Power at first Emu and than SCSI Harddrive ...versi versa.)

hey, thanks for your reply.

sorry if i was not too clear on the setup. it is an internal hd

re the hd, i bought it off ebay. tried to find a similar listing but it looks like they're gone now. anyway i was under the impression that it was an IDE hd, but with a IDE -> SCSI adapter on it. It has a weird adapter connected to the back, which then plugs into the scsi cable inside the emu. on it there are some jumpers to set the ID. options are 0 and 1, so i've set it at one.

I did open er up and reseat the jumper for the SCSI ID of the hd. it is set to 1

termination, i was referring to the sampler options. there is an option in SCSI setup of the EMU to set termination on/off. It's always been set to ON, so i've left it as such. If i turn it 'off' the HD is not detected at all (regardless of whether the computer is connected)

right now, everything is working fine with all of my old settings, so long as the computer is not connected. so i'm guessing it is either something wrong with the jumper for the HD, or it is something wrong with the computer/scsi card.. maybe it was my old card, but i thought i remembered a setting in device manager for the card to turn termination on/off for the card.. i couldn't find that so i guess i was mistaken.

i'm going to open er up and take a crack at it again this weekend. maybe see if i can get it working with a different computer. which means i gotta build a new xp machine out of spare parts. i guess it would also be worthwhile to check and see if i can get communication between the computer and the emu, without the HD in the mix...

thanks again ;)
