Just recieved my e5000 ultra in the mail yesterday and got around to messing with it today. I started by putting a wav file on a floppy disk and tried to load it only to see an unknown error message come up. I did some reading and found that the emu will only accept these FAT floppy disks with the 4.7 OS.

ive downloaded the flashprep.sit file and the eos 4.7 zip and copied them to my floppys in many different ways. first i did the basic format NOT in dos and copied each file on to 2 separate floppys. tried them on the emu and nothing happened. Then i formatted in dos and copied through dos , still nothing. Ive tried to format on the emu but then when i go to copy the files onto the floppies my pc tells me i need to format.

ive tried several different floppy disks to no avail.

the only reaction of anything ive got out of the sampler is when i hold enter when booting the sampler and it says "download os from midi" yes enter, no exit

any ideas? i really dont wanna drop a few bills on getting a scsi cdrw or hdd attatchment

You downloaded the files from the Mac-section @ emu-site (because you write .sit) ? But you have a PC, right ? Choose PC @ emu-site then.

Anyway, you need to extract zips and execute/run extracted .exe-files (FLASHPRP.EXE and EOS470.EXE), do not copy the compressed files (zip) onto the floppies. It will prompt you to insert a floppy in drive A and extract Flashprep and EOS to floppy each then. This you insert in Ultra floppy drive, Prep disk first. I hope this was the problem.

thank you! your reply helped and i was able to get 4.7 installed properly.

However i am still not able to load any samples off floppys! ive tried formatting and copying samples onto floppy in dos and formatting samples in emu and copying in dos and still comes up with "unknown error" when i try to load the sample. Ive tried shortening and removing numbers from the file name, and all sorts of wierd ways and nothing still. any ideas?

You see the wavs on floppy I understand, "unknown error" comes if you try to import ?
Since you've tried already shortening names etc. it could be samples are not 16 bit or their samplerate too high ?
Working here, guess you'll figure it out.

yeh unknown error is often 24-bit samples, it can only take 16-bit.
