hey there-

after 12 years, my 20gb hd that came with my e4xt ultra is about to die. i was wondering if anyone knows a way of getting everything off my hd and into my macbook pro? also, when i install my new drive, how can i format it with eos 4.7? i have it as a file on my macbook. anyone know where i can get an adat expansion for my unit as well? thanks everyone in advance.

To install new drive see my post Ide Drive installation HELP
link http://www.emusonacid.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3733

To transfer data from your old drive check out this handy device on ebay for £11.99 delivered
3.5" IDE to USB Hard Disk Drive Enclosure Caddy
link http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/3-5-IDE-USB-Hard-Disk-Drive-Enclosure-Caddy-WIN7-/270741927597?pt=UK_Collectables_HardDriveEnclosures_RL&hash=item3f0979f6ad
This will allow transfers with USB and mean you will not have to tinker with your computer.
Just check with seller that this will run on a mac, I can't see that it will pose any problems as all the other enclosures on ebay work fine with macs, I just gave you this link as it is the cheapest on ebay.
Just remember that your internal drive is a IDE and so you need the IDE external enclosure and not the cheaper SATA ones Same goes for buying a new drive - IDE/pata only.

You will not need to update the eos as this is kept on the emu's eprom and as you are running 4.7 you just use the emu to format the drive in FAT as this will allow use of drives upto 120GB no problem.

thanks for the replys people! i wish i had gone the cf card option. still a little fuzzy on getting the eos 4.7 loaded on the new drive, or cf card if i go that route ultimately, as i don't have a floppy with it on. anyone know if the emu will load the 4.7 os from the sampler to format the hd? if so, does that go for the cf card too? still, anyone know about a adat option card for sale somewhere? again, thanks loads!

You do not load EOS onto the hard drive or any other user storage medium. (Have another read of JAHFUNK's post, specifically the last line)

EOS lives in the machine permanently on it's own little piece of dedicated flash memory (nothing to do with sample RAM either).
This is how the sampler is able to boot up when you turn it on even if there are no drives connected to it at all, just the floppy with no disk inserted.

If we were talking about the Roland s760 on the other hand, then you want to save that OS onto every drive you've got, because the first thing it
does when you turn on the power is look for a disk drive (floppy or SCSI chain) that has the OS on it. E-mus are not like this (thankfully).

Re... adat option card
You will either have to find one on ebay
or ask in the buy/sell section here on emusonacid to try to buy a second hand one
They are not easy to come by!
GOOD LUCK
