Does the unit power up normally aside from the lcd being blank? If you can hear the HD spin up, the fan inside and you can see the leds on the front panel light up then PERHAPS your lcd screen decided to kick the bucket. If so this thread may help:

viewtopic.php?t=310&highlight=lcd

Backlit screens do fail occasionally so hopefully that is what the problem is. I wouldn't rule out taking the unit into a local service provider though if that doesn't seem to be the problem. You'll be without your beast for a while but at least the problem will be solved. I am not that familiar with lcd screens so that is the extent of my troubleshooting skills.

It might be worth reinstalling the OS.

I've just been having the same problem!
My story: The emu 5000 have been working fine up until one day that we were recording at a studio. Now it wasn't my studio (don't have any :(), and the thing is it's the first time it's happend. I've played many gigs and never had probs.. now to the point..
What I did was to remove the rfx card and then everything was fine. The reason for doing this is - I haven't yet replaced the power supply and thought that the studio might not have the full 240 volts running or something, cause the studio is in an old factory kind of thing with an old power setup or what you call it. The power didn't seem to be 100% stable. Anyway got home and haven't had problems since (I put the RFX back in again by the way).
So long story short - if you're on the old power supply, get a new one or check if the voltage is stable. If not get a voltage stabelizer (don't now what they are called really, but there are deicated boxes for that purpose).

DEAD E5000 boooo

deadman and co...

Just wondering if you got any further with this? I've just had a completely identical problem and it's driving me insane: I'm sitting here with the lid off my E5000 and every time I turn it on it goes through the stages of the boot up and then sporadically the display cuts out and I'm left with just the sound of the fan and a few button lights on the front panel. Anyway, I think this is identical to your problem:

> my e5000s broke,
>it crashes on start up - the lcd goes blank and all the leds on the front >panel light up
>any ideas on what might be wrong or where to get it fixed
>any help is greatly appreciated!!!
>thx in advance

so if you could let me know how/if you managed to sort it in the end??

cheers! help!

hi,
it waas a while ago now, but i'm pretty sure this was solved straight away with an update/rollback to the most appropriate drivers. Available on emus website or with a google search...
good luck!

hi there,

i have to bump this thread as i got the same problem with my emu 5000 ultra.

its like that:

sometimes when i switch it on it strats booting before the lcd turns black and the whole system crashes. sometimes it runs fine and crashes after 30 minutes.
as soon as it crashes all the button lights of the emu are flashing.

now, is the cause an unstable power supply or what?

help plz! i need my emu running! ;)

Chalk up another for this problem. My 6400 ultra turned on LCD went blank and all the button backlights lit up. Now it just turns on, no fan noise hard drive doesnt start either and lcd still doesnt go.

Appears that this happens to a few people!!
My guess is a dead lcd as it has done the same to me but was just the lcd cable loose.

Will try to re install eos and give and update as to how it went.

I am really fucked if its not software as am in NewZealand with no hope in hell of servicing my bird

mine was an a/c power issue.

when I put the sampler on a line conditioner, it works fine.
