Internal SCSI drive for EIV classic with EOS3

Hi
I am a newbie EMU owner - just bought a EIV classic with 32 MB RAM and 1 MB CPU RAM and EEPROM ( I am assuming that I CANNOT upgrade past 3.0b). The sampler came without an internal SCSI HD. I (foolishly?) thought I could fit one of the old SCSI drives I have kicking around the house. However it doesnt seem to want to recognise, mount or format the disk. Am I right in assuming that the EMU wont format its internal drive? I think at least one of the drives I tried is compatible (IBM 1080 MB).

Any help or pointers you more experienced users can provide would be most welcome

cheers

Have you checked the jumper settings on your HD?
It is the most common error on the HD-ROM when they don't start and it can be a bit tricky on SCSI disks

It is right you can not run EOS higher than 3b.
EOS of 3b requires 2 MB CPU Flash.
There is actually no idea to look for upgrades as they are rare ande expensive. It is easier to finde and much cheaper to get one more E4 than upgrading them

cheers

Erm.. I've just upgraded my EIV Classic to EOS 4.62. I think this is as far as you can go with the Classic.

...having said that, I did have a problem with my internal SCSI drive after the upgrade, so maybe EOS 4.x isn't meant to run on an EIV Classic, and that's why my HD got corrupted.

EOS 4.61 can be run in classic
I Had previously an e6400 classic, with 1 and 2 MB CPU.
Anyway, the 4.70 is for Ultras

cheers and good luck

OBS! EDIT POST:
EOS 4.61 not for Classic. The last was 4.1. It can be downloaded from:

thanks for all the replies so far.

I have tried changing the address of the HD and the EIV - no joy. I tried playing with the scsi termination settings as well. Can someone who has a working EIV with internal HD confirm if the EIV needs termination on, and if the drive does as well?
Has anyone with EOS 3 managed to format their internal drive? I am thinking of trying to mount in an external box and format it there - see if that works

Hi

just thought I'd post an update - found the main problem. I was using a power connector already available in the classic ( it was forked off the floppy drive connector.) However when I checked I saw that the 5v pair did not have a ground connector. I connected the 12v ground - and that seemed to do it.

For future reference I have the drive scsi terminated, the EIV classic termination off, and I am using an IBM 1GB drive that was listed as compatible. The emu sees it and formatted it. I have yet to copy any samples over - but so far ( touch wood) all seems ok.

Thanks for all the pointers, etc
