EIV Classic Screen Issue After EL Panel Replacement

Well, I finally took the plunge, gritted my teeth, and replaced the ELL backlight panel on my EIV Classic display. Everything seemed to be fine, and the new blue colour light is lovely! However, I then started to notice that some of the menu items, buttons and labels seen to have become corrupted. It doesn't seem to be related to particular areas of the display screen, it's particular menu items, or in some cases the labels inside the button graphics above the F keys, that have been effected. For example, if I hit the Master button, then F3 for Setup, then F3 again for Misc. I get a list of items to change, with each item prefixed with an F-key number. Items F4 and F5 are corrupted. I can select these items with the corresponding F-key, and change their values, but they're virtually unreadable. Also, if I change one of these settings, part of the 'Please reboot for settings to take effect' message is also corrupted. However, other screen graphics in this area of the screen are fine.

I've discovered other instances of screwed-up graphics, too. Has anyone else come across this issue after changing the EL panel? It's possible the problem predates the backlight change, as the original backlight panel was so dim when I got the EIV that I might not have spotted the problem.

Incidentally, I also upgraded the firmware from 4.10b to 4.62 recently. Don't know if this has any bearing on the issue.
Anyone any clues?

I've tried rerunning the EOS 4.62 updater, which hasn't fixed the issue. Anyone any thoughts? My initial suspicion was that I'd reassembled the LCD incorrectly, as to replace the EL panel, I took the front part of the display off the base circuit board completely, and I'd heard that it can be tricky to get them back together correctly aligned. I'd have thought if it was an alignment issue though, everything on the display would be mangled. Maybe this is nor the case. Incidentally, I also ran the Panel Check in the diagnostics utils, and every pixel of the display lit and went dark as it should during the LCD test.

Anyway, I'd be very grateful for any tips on what might be going wrong.

Cheers,

This hasn't to do with EOS. Well, IMO you gave yourself the answer, your "initial suspicion".
I'm a non-techie, just read about this, sort of tutorial, although think it was Akai sampler related if this can be compared.
Don't have a link, sorry, maybe it comes up in google, maybe someone on here did this before I can imagine, try this boards search - haven't tried. Guess it had to do with pressure that is not applied equally to the panel/foil, I seem to remember. Dunno how many tries you have to do this correctly, before there's damage done (is possible ?).

Hi Rascal Revenge.

You're probably right. I've been thinking I should maybe try taking the display apart and putting it back together again, to see if that fixes the problem. I'm a little reluctant though, because, as you say, there's a chance I might make it worse.

Cheers,

got a replacement panel from these guys (http://www.ebay.com/itm/LCD-BACKLIGHT-L ... 416wt_1008).
picked up a cheap soldering iron from R Shack, works fine!
