that particular sell is always really high.

you have to really want the piece, to buy from them.

no problem.

if you are using os9, then you can get a sweet opcode midi interface
for just a few dollars.

if multi-platform, them the motu is a must.
the motu's are a little more expensive $50- $150

Are you sure about that? I've not heard that before. Is this documented anywhere? I'm not trying to start an argument on the subject but I would like to know as I was thinking of trying to find another G4 to add to my studio and was planning on running OS9.

Cheers,

yes I am sure about that

quoted from Everymac.com

"The Power Macintosh G4 (Firewire 800) series is similar to the "Mirrored Drive Doors" series that it replaced -- both share an identical case design complete with "mirrored drive doors" and the same bus speeds (133 MHz or 167 MHz) and RAM (PC2100 and PC2700), for example -- but the "Firewire 800" models have faster optical drives and add a single Firewire 800 port along with support for onboard AirPort Extreme (802.11g) and Bluetooth 1.1.

Perhaps most notably, however, is that the "Mirrored Drive Doors" models are capable of booting in MacOS 9, whereas the "Firewire 800" models are not."

I don't know why i am doing google research for you.
this took 30 seconds to find

i picked up the idea to buy this model mac from an oasys pci discussion list. the oasys pci wont work with a dual processor configuration, and its drivers are os9 or 98se only. which one would you choose? im not saying this wont be a learning experience hah! but im excited about being able to use an oasys in many ways. its a super quality instrument/mixing environment worth keeping around. the thing was developed on a mac, no reason to think it wouldnt run better on one. and im tired of 98se for any machine in my system. i would truly like to get a stupid fast one that could do everything, but thats a carrot on a stick. i guess its the price i pay for sticking with old technology!

os 9 is better that windows in my opinion.

but, i've been with apple since 1983

the last pc I owned was a 286, running windows 3.0

I had a turtle beach sound card, an alesis sr-16, and a 4 track.
And of course two 1200's and some giant cerwin-vega PA speakers

My apologies for wasting 30 seconds of your incredibly valuable time. I merely asked you a question. You merely had to reply with "I read it on everymac.com".

lordtoranaga wrote:also there is a company that made a 4 port pci card.

I had one once, and do not recall the manufacturer.

what product is this? can anyone remember? mr toranaga, can you think deep on it and see if you can remember? damn i want that, it would be perfect... as long as its under $100 that is. otherwise i might as well get the G4 port and a serial MIDI interface.
