Emu X:

My sources indicate the preamps are TFPro (Joemeek), and the convertors are actually high-quality (a first for Creative).
But does it control the Ultra????

that has to cost some money though... i thought the whole idea of going soft was to cheaping (or allow those who pirate shit) to get things easier. it looks like you would need to pci slots open for this.
looks good though. very interested as well. and when i upgrade my computer it looks to be a good addition. perhaps.

That IS very interesting news.
I DO hope that I will be able to purchase only the editor though.
I have been through enough crappy converters in my lifetime :-)
But intersting never the less.

eh, i'm not impressed. no PCM/CIA ability?
anyhow, i use my sampler live and i could never dream of running a PC/MAC OS on stage!
the software could be cool if it does connect to an E4.
long live my hardware sampler!
at least, i hope it does live long

Hmm, yeah, I use a laptop, don't own a desktop machine anymore. So I guess I can't get one of those. Stupid move on their part not providing a firewire or USB (or pcmcia) interface for it -- desktop computers are on the way out as more and more people go for laptops... Especially in the music community where people like to tote around their studios as much as possible.

It remains to been seen whether the break out box has Firewire connectivity. perhaps it connects via PCI or Firewire.
Still if it is a PCI it is a huge problem for G5 Mac's since they only have PCI-X slots and the regular PCI cards are keyed differently so they will not fit in a PCI-X slot.
I think they may have made a mistake in using 'Creative' as the manufacturer name. EMU have a well recognized name in the pro circuit, unfortunately ppl see Creative as the maker of cheepo PC cards. Im sure many will scoff at this 'Creative Professional' marketing strategy.
Im still going to wait till Namm for the complete and official details because for this thing to be of ANY use to me it NEEDS to beable to control my Hardware EMU's !!!! That is what many of us have been waiting for for so many years.

I believe the EmulatorX does not control hardware Emulators - and I heard that from a development manager in E-MU.

so you think this software will read our old EMU formatted CD's or do you think it'll have it's own new proprietary format? EMU is clearing out all the old CD's you know. it would be great if the format was the same, so we would also get some freshy new CD-ROM's made due to this new product.
also, i thought i heard once that EMU will still, someday, be making another hardware sampler. any idea if this is true? i'm hoping one day for a 24 bit capable E4.
Software that controls a good part of your E4

Hi all
I couldn't stop noticing that some of you ask for software to control your E4.
Try and take a hard look at this site:
http://www.zuonics.com/
The software doesn't control all functions on the E4 but it does control a good part of the internal data processing and they do post updates quite often.
Best regards
Brian

Yeah...I have to agree with Brian. I don't see E--MU developing an app. to enable cross editing. Look at the dismal effort with EOS link.

I talked to an EMU support person a while back and since I had him on the phone I prodded him for any info on future EOS developments. I was told they are definitely going to put out the software sampler. I guess this Emulator X should be it(?). I asked about details or rumors and the old info about it being used as a remote for a hardware EMU, USB card for the hardware samplers, etc. He said the plan for the USB card for the hardware sampler and any sort of tie in with the soft sampler was scrapped. He said that the software EMU should share the same file format as the hardware so you could load banks from the Emulator X into a hardware sampler. How this would be done was not explained. I imagine you could burn CD's on the PC EMU then load them into a hardware EMU. This was all told to me last November by a tech support guy who's only info was from internal memos and didn't have any direct info from the developers. Since then this thing could have changed a few times and could possibly now have no resemblance to our beloved boxes. Patch cords and Z plane filters is encouraging though. I hope there is an anouncement at Namm so we can start to ask the tough questions.

I've just got myself one of the Emulator X studios, and I have successfully managed to import about 95% of the 20 free cds which came with my E5000 ultra, using the bundled converter. Took me a while to figure it out though but got there in the end. Its quite simple really, but due to the fact that I'm even simpler, there was much wailing and gnashing of teeth on my part.
This is absolutely brilliant. The detail in the sounds is amazing, and there's so many of 'em, I can never audition all of them in a single session.
Stunning. If you can get it, do so.
