hi

i couldn't help buying this appealing emulator-X thingy..

now i have to upgrade my pc, as i only have a P3 800MHz..

basically, i need a new motherboard, a processor, and (lots of?) RAM.
(i allready have fast enough HD's)

for the motherboard, i'm looking into some asustek stuff
(nothing fancy tho: no need for 5.1 audio, ethernet, or stuff like that: i only need the basic shit for the emulator )

processor: P4 3,2GHz.. i believe.

RAM: how much do i need? 1Go? 2Go? 4Go?

what would you "emus" recommend?

(please  ;) )

I'd go for 1gb of RAM - try and get 512mb match pairs and they'll run better. Anything upward is cool too

yeah thanx. i figured i should start with 1 "Gb", and see how this works.

matched pairs, ok. (you mean the same model right?)

any recommendations on a particular chipset for the mobo?
which ones are best for audio, generally?

I got an abit ic7 and i have had 1 or 2 issues with the patchmix software crashing , i think its an irq issue , a friend also has the same board with his emu x and and he has different problems , im going to try installing mine in std mode rather than acpi and see if it helps, but my 2.4 ghz with 512 of ram runs fine and the software has not maxed out for me yet.

yes most definately.

keep in mind emulator x comes with processor pci cards to lighten the load on your cpu.

from what i understand, the dsp is used only for effects & pitching.
does anyone have more info about this?
(the manual don't say much)

marketing ;)

From some of the horror stories i am hearing from people on doa, i have decided to build myself another computer.

which way would you guys like to go for processors. amd 3000+ or a p4?

i am probably going to get the same board that my new computer has as well, unless you guys recommend a processor that doesn't work with it.

let me know what you think.

oh, and deejaydust, match pairs, from what i understand is this. for example with the board i have, you have four slots for ram, the slots come in different colours, two are red, and two are green. if you place to sticks of ram that have the same amount of ram in both red slots, you get a daul pipeline kind of thing going on. from what i understand the cpu can use both sticks of ram at once, making processing from the ram go faster, or something like that.

perhaps some one can explain this better?

cheers

thanks ;)

AMD or pentium?
i don't know, really.
i go pentium.. cause i feel more comfortable with it, but most people say there are no performance differences.

what horror stories are you talking about?

i just built a new machine. p4 3.0gz gig of ram - p4p800 deluxe mobo. Seems fine so far. Athlon and Pentium - really, all will do the trick. The only thing worth thinking about is Athlon 64 for future 64 bit OS's. But I reckon if you get any of the faster processors you'll have a machine able to make you enough money to buy any new computer that takes your fancy - if you put your mind to it!!!!

Asus A8N8X nforce2 , Athlon 2400+ 512MB Ram
TC Powercore + Emulator X Studio

My Terratec dmx6fire had probs with the powercore, the emu works probs

just a few crashes/hangups... but they only occured when i changed something
(loading vsti or changing the view in emulator vsti)
when crashing, the asio port hangs.
