MIDI mix screen on startup - HELP! :)

Postby Micklass » Wed Apr 06, 2005 11:07 pm

Hi there,

I'm a noob so please bare with me and excuse me if I miss anything that's completely obvious. I've just received an E5000 ultra, the problem is when I turn it on, it seems to boot fine, loads EOS 4.61, mounts SCSI drives (has a hard disk) and then goes straight to the MIDI mix screen under Multimode.

I can't seem to find my way out of this screen and the only buttons that respond are number pad and the rotary control which change the MIDI CC value from 0 to 127. I can't work out what I am doing wrong.

It's probably something really obvious, or else it's fried. Any help would be most welcome. Thanks a lot.

Lisa

Assuming it's responding, press F6 which should read "Mode" on the lcd. Than press F1, or "Whole".

thanks for the answer - it's not responding :(

I should also say it doesn't read 'mode' it just has a left pointing arrow at the bottom right hand side. I can change the volume MIDI value though. But that's all.

Have you added any memory or options?...If so try removing them. Other than that, and rebooting, I'm stumped. =(

I haven't added anything - I just bought it. I should be able to get a refund if it's broken. I just need to know that it is broken before I make a fuss.

Just another question, if no one can help...

Does an e5000 boot up to any screen other than the usual
untitled bank/p000 Untitled Preset screen? I'm trying to work out whether the buttons are broken or this is some other internal error.

E4 will boot to the multi screen if it is set to multi-mode prior to shutting down.
Are any leds lit on your machine? Do you have an arrow icon over your F6 key?

If the front panel is functioning properly pressing F6 should change the arrow icon to "Mode", after pressing mode a row of options should appear over the keys, one of them being "Whole". Also, when in multi-mode the "Next" LED should be lit.

...Do the LEDs light up during boot?

Ok - got it working! Thanks for your help btw.

I took it apart and the problem was that one of the ribbon cables connecting the front panel to the MB had shaken loose during transit. There are two cables - one for the number pad and rotary and one for all other buttons. I plugged it back in and voila - one EMU had its head pulled out of the sand.

Cheers again.

I responded to this post in the trouble shooting section of the forum so just disregard that post. The loose cable issue happened to me once and it's good to know that only a simple solution is needed. Glad you got it working. :slayer:
