Floppy necessary in E4X? (And IDE Question)

Postby Jo'ogn » Tue Nov 01, 2005 5:56 pm

I just (tried to) replace the floppy in my E4X (EOS 4.62) with a 1GB SCSI Jaz. However the Emu did not boot past the memory check... (or so it seemed - see my next post)

After I plugged in back the floppy the Emu boots o_0; The EOS in fact addresses the floppy before mounting the SCSI drives.

I searched through this form a little and found some hints that others ~have~ removed the floppy. Can the "old" E4X run w/o a floppy drive?

Plus, I picked up, that some have IDE drives in their emu's. Is that some feature of the newer Ultra E4's?

#UPDATE

I just left the E4X standing a while and... Woah, after about a minute(!) it skips the floppy boot routine *yay*

However the internal SCSI connector seemingly only supports one drive (D1) >_<; so if I want to have the Jaz AND the SCSI drive internal, then I need to loop a scsi cable from the external jack back into the box 8-)

Question remans, if it is possible to speed up the boot, when the floppy is disconnected?

Plus I need to check if the power supply can run all those drives. It seems to me as if CD-ROM and DVD drives have reading problems when the supply might be in overload :???:

I believe you need an ultra to use an IDE drive.

An ultra is needed to get an ide-harddrive to work with your classic. As for the rest, I can't really help you :)
