Backing up the Internal IDE Hard Drive on an Ultra (E4XT)

Postby Shahaboddin » Thu Dec 01, 2005 5:42 am

Goal: Back up the internal IDE Hard Drive on my E4XT

I originally bought an external SCSI hard drive that was 540MB, so I could:
1. Back up the files
2. Hook up the external SCSI hard drive to my PC
3. Burn a disk image of the entire drive onto a CD

This didn't work.

Anyone know of a reliable way to back up the Internal IDE Hard Drive on EMUs onto a CD?

What didn't work exactly ?

I have a 600Mb SCSI external disk I keep for that purpose.

1) Copy the files from your internal drive to the external drive.

2) Connect the external to your PC.

3) Use disk2file or one of the DOS utilities from Goldenhawk to create a raw ISO of your external drive.

4) Burn the ISO to CD.

If you have a problem backing up to your external drive, I suppose your SCSI chain is not set up properly, or perhaps the cable is bad.

My PC doesn't recognize the SCSI External Drive.

Your PC is not meant to recognise the SCSI drive since it has not been formated for use on a PC. What matters is for the PC to know something has been connected on the SCSI chain. Try disk2file to see if it is recognised.
