How do I do it? Is it possible?

I used my Akai sampler for quite some time and whenever I would tweak its filter, midi messages were automatically directed out and I could record them on Cubase just by activating record and selecting the appropriate channel.

I just got my E5000 Ultra and I noticed that whenever I tweak the filter(s) by using the data wheel on the front panel, no midi messages are sent.

How should I do it - or IS there a way of recording the filter tweak done with the data wheel at all?

Please keep the answers relatively simple - I'm not too familiar with setting the controllers and all yet

OK. While the "data wheel" or whatever does not send MIDI data, it is possible to record real time modulations with the mod wheel of your controler keyboard (these can be purchased for as little as US$50). In addition, you can route the filter to be controlled by an envelope or an LFO. In order to set this up, you need to familiarize yourself with the cords page.

Select your preset
Hit "preset edit"
Highlight V1
Hit "edit voice" (alternately you could hit "edit group" or hit "global" followed by "edit all")
Hit Cords
Set the following cord:
Source=MODW
Dest=FiltFreq
Amt= -100% (this is assuming your filter is a lowpass set to 20K Hz. If it was a lowpass or highpass set to 57 Hz you would want the Amount set to +100% because you want want to increase the Hz as you increase the value of the Mod Wheel.)

By changing the Source to LFO or FENV etc., you can modulate the filter in other ways.
