do you guys remember that choon.. get funky.. i that it was a good one.
anyway. you can kind of get strange sounds like in that song with this trick. this is what you have to do.
take your synth patch or whatever you have. and make your loop. this goes more so for the emu users that have either A.) sound disks with synth emulations on them or B.) make there own sounds from varios sources.
okay lets say you have made you hook... you are satisfied with the way it sounds and you feel that you are not going to go out of that range at all. so what you want to do is go into the preset edit screen, were you can move the orgin and such around after you have placed the sample. you can set your sampler to have the high and low fall with in an octave of what you are in. so if you have c, g, e,d,f you would set your low to be c, and your high to be the next c one octave up. so what you will have is keys that have no sound above and below were your hook is.
okay now go into tuning in the preset edit menu, and set your portemento to 0.172/per ocatve, or whatever you want. you can play with this to get the sound you want. now since you have one track playing your hook, make another track that has the same channel as the one you have the hook on. basicaly you can just copy the track again, then delete the midi events. now on this second track, you can program another hook with midi notes, but you will not hear anything.
what will happen when you play both tracks at the same time is this: every note that has sound that lands on a note that doesn't have sound, either the empty keys above or below, will pitch up or down drastically, but you will not hear two sounds. so you can kind of get little laser type sound. the sampler will take the live note and replace it with one that is being glided radically up or down. if empty note that you played actually had sound on it, you wont quite get the same affect. it will of course glid, but you will have the higher, or lower note play, and the little laser kind of sound or bleep, whatever wont be quite defined.
hope you guys like it... some might already know this, but if you don't now you have something that you can play with.
