A mixer map is basically all the midi parameters of a piece of hardware represented as a customisable representation of a control surface (resembles a mixer). Used with a mix track in Cubase, you record control/automation data onto the track by twiddlimg knobs etc and the data is sent with the correct control number. This can be done anyway but will usually mean that you have to know the controllers the device responds to and send the data via the correct control change no (i.e 0-127). Mixer maps are just a convenient way of having it all set out for you without remembering the controller nos and what effect they have on the device`~Nads.
