Flash RAM

Postby vermis_rex » Wed Jan 10, 2007 11:42 pm

Does anybody know the specifics of the Flash RAM E-mu used to sell for burning Proteus2K modeuls on the e4-Ultra samplers?

Obviously, E-mu don't sell them any more. But I'm wondering if they were just a standard module that I could still hunt down, or were they something proprietary that was made specially for E-mu

Well, finally got a response back from E-mu on this. Turns out it "was a standard part from Pactron".

So, answered my own question. Yay...

Bit of a problem there... I can't reach Pactron's web site at all, so I don't even know if it's the same company or if they're even still in business.

The ONLY 32MB Flash 72-pin SIMM I've been able to hunt up online is one from Cisco Systems for an old model router (and I don't think they even manufacture it anymore, this is left-over new stock). But I have no way of knowing whether it's even compatible.

Anyway, the one place I've been able to find it is here http://store.majormemory-com.com/mem-381-1x32f.html, and there's a nice picture but not real information. $113 US

The same unit is available from an online shop in the UK... for more than 4 times the price, so I'm not going to bother showing their link.

The problems seem to be:
a) nobody uses 32MB (or 16MB) SIMMs anymore
b) very few people even use SIMMs at all anymore
c) all the flash RAM being manufactured is in the form of things like Compact Flash cards and such, which does us absolutely no good at all

Oh well... while it would have been nice to be able to author a sound RAM on the Ultra to swap into my PX-7, it really seems to be far more work than its actually worth.
