SCSI to USB or Firewire (which ones actually work?)

Postby 5c4r7 » Fri Nov 09, 2007 3:51 pm

Hi there,

I am hoping to use this thread to help EOS sampler users (like myself), figure out which SCSI to USB or Firewire adapters actually work. Since there are so many threads on this already, perhaps this will help compile it all into a single thread, making it easier for users to find the answers they are looking for when it comes to SCSI transfering. Perhaps people who have actually tested out which ones can post their setup specs and experiences here. What I hope to see is:

-SCSI adapter brand/model (including special features such as SCSI daisy chaining support in either Windows or OS X)
-Sampler used
-Computer used
-Software used
-Any setup or configuration issues experienced
-etc...

Heh:) It seems that people have discussed this so much they just stay away from anything named firewire, usb and scsi. But, if someone starts posting I'll delete the postings that is'nt relevant. Like this one:)

I had success with a castlewood scsi to usb

powermac g4, adaptec 2930 cu scsi card, bias peak, dsp quattro.

this worked with an emu e5000 ultra.
this worked with an esi4000.
this did not work with any other device in thew scsi chain.
this did not work on my Imac c2d.

I have an Adaptec USB to SCSI Xchange. I'll let you know how it works!

Hi Fractured,

I would not only be interested in finfing whether the sampler and the computer can be connected in this way, but also whether you can use that cable to connect an external USB hard drive to the sampler. If this worked, then it would be easy to pass banks from the computer to the sampler ans viceversa, by previously writing them in the external harddrive.

Let us know!
Thanks.

the scsi to usb will only work with a computer.

It will not allow you to hook up usb products to your scsi sample. Only allows to hook up scsi products to usb COMPUTER.

The question for me is whether I can hook a SCSI chain, including my samplers, to my MacBook Pro.

I've been searching for an answer for this for quite some time now. The best work around solution that I have found is, Save files from my Macbook to a USB zip drive and then load them into a SCSI zip drive attached to the sampler. If anyone does have success with communicating a MacBook to a EOS sampler, please add your story to this thread.
