HI

Just wondering if either the emax2 or emu E-series rack could read Akai S3000 formatted zip disks and samples?

I can't speak for higher OS versions, but my E4K (EOS 3.0b) only reads S1000 format CDs. I have both types of CD as I own both an S1000 and S2800i and if I want to share samples with the E4K, I have to use translation software.

You need at least EOS 4:

EOS 4.0 manual excerpt:

The Emulator family has access to the huge library of sounds available from
E-mu and other sources. EOS is fully compatible with the E-IV, e-64, EIII,
EIIIX, ESI-32, E4K, E-6400, E4X, E-Synth and Ultra sound libraries, and can
transparently read Emax II, Roland S-700 and Akai S1000/S1100/S3000
banks via SCSI HD or CD?ROM without awkward conversion routines.

I had just one CD in this (not so common) format I converted ages ago, and it did show up as Akai 3000 in Ultra display I remember.

brilliant but would this still be the same for zip disks which are formatted by the S3000 or just CD-rom?

Like it says above, it will/should read from SCSI HD, thus including IOMEGA Zip,Jaz or diverse Syquest like EzDrive/-flyer, MOD, ORB removable media drives, whatever is compatible.
