Reading Akai CD-ROMs on E-Synth...

Postby mingle » Tue May 20, 2008 5:54 am

Hi,

I have a couple of Akai sample CD-ROMs, which I've tried to load on my E-Synth (via a directly connected SCSI CD-R drive), but they don't appear to be able to be read.

I'm unsure exactly what version these CDs are (I do know they're 16-bit samples on there, as I've used them with Kontakt).

Does anyone know of an easy way to find out the exact Akai format they are and is it possible to convert then to either E-mu format, or a E-Synth compatible Akai format?

Any suggestions or help greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Mike.

I think it depends on what EOS version your machine has. My E4K operates under EOS 3.0b and I am limited to Akai S1000 CDs. It simply won't read S3000-format.

To convert them, you could use ChickenSys Translator.

If you can read the disk in Windows, it's S5000 format - S1000/3000 disks are unreadable.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses!

I can't read the CD in my (XP) pc, so I guess it's an S1000/3000 disc...

Wonder why my E-Synth (EOS4.62) won't read it?

Cheers,

Mike.

S1000 discs (CDs, not floppies) are positively readable. I do it all the time.

Hi Gilles,

Okay, I'll investigate further and try and determine the format of the CDs.

If nothing else works I do have an old copy of Chicken System Translator which I may have to press into service.

Thanks!

Mike.

Really? I just get an error. Sampling software (Kontact, Translator etc can read the disks, but not Windows itself (i.e. explorer).

Sorry, I was referring to the sampler itself. Windows won't read Akai S1000/S30000 CDs, of course, except from within a suitable application such as translator.
