Emu Rackmounting kits.

Postby rhythmsickness » Mon Jul 07, 2008 6:24 pm

Ok so I have an e6400 with Rack ears fitted and an E4XT without Rack ears fitted.

From what I can tell the Rack Ears fitting includes the tapping of the holes in the side of the EMU, which are there but just don't have the threading, and the supply of the big steel ears and screws to attach them to the sampler.

Does anyone have a source for suitable rack ears for emu's other than existing emu's with them?

I am going to look into getting a tap and die kit, and then some suitably sized rack ears that can be modified for the purpose. I know that the emu 'brand' ones have a slight kink in them to account for the edge of the front panel, but I aim to get around this by simply using a plate behind the rack ear. Anyone interested in this? As if I get the bits to do it I should be able to make more than one pair.

can you check the holes on the side of your emu for me?
are the holes threaded?

Couldn't you just use a rack tray like this:

Yep you could. The problem with it being that its a tray. Which means the sampler just sits on it, as opposed to the sampler being fixed securely into a rack. It's only a small difference, but on the tray the sampler can move about, where as with rack ears it can't.

Yes Yes Yes. Please count me in too for rack ears. Have an ear-less E4XT Ultra that I'd dearly love to rack up!

If anyone could find a source for some rack ears count me in!

Alternatively why not go with my plan B and drill holes in a rack shelf in line with the rack ear holes. It will probably need a shim of 2-3mm aluminium or such, but probably easier and cheaper than getting proper ears milled.

I just saw some rack ears for the E-mu ultra on ebay if any is interested. Someone is selling them for $30 each (not me, but I just thought you may want to know).
