Dead E4XT

Postby grahams » Fri Mar 20, 2009 12:46 am

Hi,

Just purchased a dead Emu E4XT for 37ukp.
I have been told that it is a dead powersupply, dont know till I get it though.

At the moment I have a fully working E5000 ultra, I am wondering if I could either use the E5000's psu in the E4XT or if not, would any of the internals of the E4XT fit the E5000. I was wondering if the extra midi and digital board would work in it.

Anyone know?

Bit of a gamble but will pay off if I can get it working.

Cheers,

Graham

the psu for the 5000 might be a little low on power for the e4xt, although I dont know as I haven't got one to check.
Extra midi and digital board should be plug and play though, there are install guides for them on the emu site. I think the expansions work across the whole range apart from the keyboard version.
There is also somewhere listed on these boards that sell compatible psu's.
good luck and 37 is cheap as chips

the power supply is very cheap. I just picked up one in the US for $20 or so off of ebay. Just get a new one. Mine was for the keyboard, but it's probably similar. Was a very easy replacement too.

Besides the ADAT option, my E4XT is fully loaded including the
RFX and is working properly with that poor 43Watts PSU.

I know this isn't a good solution, but so far, I had no problems.
Therefore, I'd say the XT should be running with the 5000 PSU.

It would be better if I could just get a replacement psu, but I am in the UK and dont think I can get one of ebay from the UK.

I don't think the extra midi and digital io will be compatible between the 2 units unless you got an E4XT Ultra.

It is the Ultra version, both the E5000 and the E4XT.

Ok, I got the E4XT ultra today, have swapped the power supply out of my E5000 and it works flawlessly.
I did notice that there is a chip that should go in the E5000 for the aes digital output, there is a socket in the e5000 and chip is soldered in the E4XT, so it looks like it wouldnt have worked properly without the chip.

Well please how its worked out, I will get a friend to look at the fried psu to see if he can get it working, if not I will have to find a replacement.

Cheers,

Graham
