Sysex bank loading and best practice working with DAW

Postby tek_uk » Sun Jan 10, 2010 11:02 am

Hi All,

I was just wondering if there is some sysex blocks that can be used to load a specific bank as part of a DAW project/song.

I am wondering how people work usually, do you alway make a not of the bank/programs used and load them manually or is it automated somehow.
I am asking specifically for non-Rom sounds (I have the MoPhat Rom and have no problems with it), i.e banks and programs stored on disk.

More generally, i'd be interested to understand how people work with their sampler and DAW these days.

Thanks

Laurent

That's a good question ...

I personally use my e6400 Ultra the old fashion way, loading 1 sound at a time or so (but some of my vintage patches - rhodes , wurlitzer - are quite big, more than 50 Mb each), and directly saving the audio output to an audio track in my DAW (after the midi part seems correct to me). I usually keep the midi tracks muted if I want to work on them later, and I write down the patch used in a track notepad.

But I guess that's not the kind of reply that interrests you much  but saw no reply on your topic for days ...
I'd like to know if others do automatic loading of banks via sysex messages, could be very interresting ! 8-)

You don't need SysEx to load a bank via MIDI. You just use the "Magic Preset" feature located in the MIDI Prefs. Basically you choose a program number 0-127 to be the magic preset and then send the Emulator that number to signify that the next preset change will be a bank load. That's it!
