HI
If your talking about a big hard drive I take it you own an ultra? If so read on.
I had scsi card installed in my PC specially for my emu , so I could shift sounds back and forth between the two.
However I always seemed to run into problems getting my pc to talk to the ultra (sometimes it would, but often not)
My solution to this problem has made me happy as a pig in sh1t and I think it is the best way to go for all your sample transfer needs. I simply upgraded my ultra to 4.7 EOS and now it can connect to and read any scsi drive that is formated in fat32 a standard pc drive format (I don,t know about mac).
The way I do this means my pc isn,t even using scsi, here is my set-up
PC - USB 250mb ZIP drive
ultra - SCSI 250mb ZIP drive
How I work
Insert zip disc into pc zip drive.
Format
Copy and paist all the files from the PC onto the ZIP disc
Eject disc from pc drive
Insert into e-mu drive and load into memory.
You can save samples created on your emu to zip and load them straight into your pc for further chopping processing and so forth.
You could also save to zip (formatted in EOS) all your favorite folders banks and presets then place the disc into the pc usb drive and burn an image to CD to create your own CD-ROM library.
My SCSI zip drive was about 20 quid the usb zip was about 12 quid with some discs and this has been the best 30 pound I have ever spent.
You could get a specialized PC/Mac and a SCSI card and send the samples one by one with smidi ,but why not just use what computer you have and get the zips.
You could go for the 100mb zip drives but here is my logic, the 250mb drives are also able to read 100mb discs have a faster data transfer rate and so can burn a bigger CD-ROM more reliably.
You can also get away by using just one SCSI zip drive if you have a SCSI card fitted on your computer but this is a pain in the @rse as you must power down your sampler and computer before you can disconnect the drive (or suffer the risk of permanent damage to your machines).SPEND THE LITTLE EXRA AND GET THE USB DRIVE TOO.
Hope this is not too much of a waffle and the info is of some use.
PEACE
