ok when i opened up the case i found that there are two sticks of "ram" on a board in the centre of the unit, its a second pcb that has 4 slots for ram and two are taken, also to the right of that is a single "ram" slot. i have seen threads talking about 72 pin simm's etc, so i am assuming they go into that slot?. However i did read in another thread that the two IC ram chips on the main pcb u59 location were the ram chips and that these would need to be removed and replaced with different chips.

[i]Other expansions like "2nd MIDI port" or an ASCII keyboard interface" are not available any more. They were standard on E4XT and E-Synth Classic. Maybe you can find them if someone sells these parts because his unit diet.

As im good with electronics and pcb's etc if i could get some hi-res pictures of these i would happily etch some pcb's and see if i can replicate them. I will look on the net for some pictures later today.

Regarding the hard drive: EOS supports up to 18GB storage media.
Keep in mind that hard drives can die the older they get. You should think about a backup solution or an alternative storage media.
Some people use a Compact Flash cardreader that is connected via SCSI to the sampler. As this cardreaders all have IDE interfaces, they are connected to a SCSI-IDE bridge adapter to be connectable to the SCSI interface. Search the forum for more information.

You can build such a device by yourself This cardreader also works for AKAI if you still have yours.

i can build one for myself i can find a schematic later today and use eagle pcb to do the layout then print it out and etch the boards here at home

Another issue a lot of users reported, including me, is that the rotary encoder is not working properly any more because of worn out contacts. Search the forum for more information if this issue occurs to you, too.

The rotary encoder can be replaced as long as it has a part number i can reference it and get a correct replacement with the correct pulse ratio's etc.
