How's that for a subject title !?
Anyhow here is an idea which I do not know whether it can be done this way on an E6400.
The Desired sound:
Would like to play a pattern have the sequencer record it then play it back
while the first part is playing back i play another pattern sequencer records as soon as I start playing it and then plays back immediately.
At this point would like one of two things to occur:
when playing the second pattern and so on it adds to the previous patterns building multiple melodies on top of each other or
When playing a second melody it instantly cancels the previous one and continues replay until a new one is played so on and so on.

I may be describing the way some sequencers of old from the 60s-70s worked.
I do not know whether the E6400 sequencer can function in this way, I have recorded patterns on it but I am pressing the record button start stop thru out that process.
It is a tough schedule i am on having weeks off from work where I start to delve into the E-mus then when i get somewhere on it have to go back out on the road.

I'm not sure E-mu's sequencer is up to this, unfortunately. It sounds more like a job for a host sequencer such as Ableton or Reaper (http://www.reaper.fm)

Reaper has numerous sequencing functions ("actions") which can be executed from a MIDI keyboard or controller. I believe the different MIDI recording modes and track controls (overdub, replace, touch-replace, mute, unmute, etc.) are among these, so if you used them within the context of a looping arrangement it might be possible to build and sculpt a sequence in the way you describe.

forget the E-OS Sequencer. It´s just a Sticky.

MFP, what do you mean ? That it's only good for certain things but cannot accomplish 100 % of the above ?

It most definatly doesn,t have the features of a dedicated software sequencer

So limited for sure then in what it can do ?
I have heard how powerful it is from other posters here .
But can see from using it lately there are limitations.
Looks like I'll go the software route, am cking out Reaper.
Any other suggests for a full on sequencer then ?

Forgive the shameless plug, but the Sequetron may be worth a look - designed for live use and makes building up sequences from scratch a doddle.
