EIV Classic AES/EBU out to S/PDIF in?

Postby toneburst » Wed Dec 28, 2011 12:30 pm

I have a FireWire audio i/o box (MOTU 828 Mk3) that has S/PDIF digital inputs. Is it possible to use these to record digitally from the AES/EBU digital output on the EIV? I've read this is theoretically possible with some setups, but was wondering if anyone has tried it.

Cheers,

Yes, I'm doing this, or better I did. You need an AES/EBU to S/PDIF adapter-cable, a How To (along with a graphic) you find
in the EOS manual. You may need someone to solder you one, a friend made me mine, back then I couldn't buy such. You can set the output of the digital out from AES to S/PDIF protocol in EOS, but I seem to remember it did not make a difference over here, at least with my adapter-cable ! I also recommend reading the sidenotes/tips in the manual about volume- + headroom-settings, and AES boost, as these "interact".
