Easy Emu people

I just got myself a 2nd hand E4XT (Gold Edition) with 64Mb and a 2.1 Gig HD yesterday, and I need to get it up and running ASAP - I have a show I would like to use it for on 13th Feb.

I have a PX-7 sequencer, I was gonna use it to control Kontakt on my laptop, but it just wasnt stable enough, so I bit the bullet and got the Emu.

I got a Firewire to SCSI adapter which I hope will work, if not I'll have to try the Adaptec cardbus one :???:

I'm hoping to be able to transfer Kontakt multi's or instruments over to the Emu, so I can transfer tunes I have on my laptop (Sony VAIO).

Is there any advice anyone can give me on this? Also, I'm wondering if I should have got an Ultra model.... is there a big difference?

Lastly, how and where can I update the EOS? (version 3.0 at the moment)

Thanks, A.

I don't know shit about firewire. I use the Adaptec 2906 and it works perfectly. If you're trying to transfer files from Kontakt you might have some big problems. EMU's really only like to receive MIDI data and audio file formats. It won't know what to do with second party preset/modulation info. As for updating your EOS all the info is on this site somewhere. You'll need to get Flash Prep(I think), in order to install a newer EOS. Look in the downloads section for this stuff.

The Ultras have a faster processor. I think it has the same operating systme though. I dont think you can put in an RFX in the non-ultra's, but dont quote me on that.

Well, I got a 50-pin SCSI cable instead of a 25-pin one... so no luck with SCSI yet....

Checked Chicken Systems, looks like Kontakt->Emu conversions aint happenin yet, so I'll have to manually create the progs in the E4XT.

So, far i've worked out a fair bit of it without a manual... much more intuitive than my old Akai S2000.

BTW, what do you get on the RFX cards??

Cheers.
