(long post) Akai S-1000 CD ROM's and E4X w/EOS v2.8f

Hi everybody!

First of all, I'm so pleased to join the E-mu community on Emusonacid! Great service, guys!

I'm a newbie here, my name is David and I'm writing You all from Italy.

Alas, I'm a brand new owner of a 2nd hand Emulator 4X rackmount sampler! After so much time on saving pennies, i was finally able to buy it!
This machine is great! It's a fully expanded one (128MB RAM), with the "standard" EFX card, AES/EBU Digital I/O and a 540 MB hard drive. While shopping, i purchased an external CD-ROM drive (a Nec model) and 2 CD-ROMs (both are Akai's S-3000 formatted ones).

Here the problems come...

When i tried to load the CDs, my machine refused to read them... I then tried to upgrade my EOS version (my original one is the "v2.8f") to v4.1 but, after a couple of calls to E-mu, i just learned that i need a 6853 upgrade kit (which is pratically worldwide unavailable).

After that, i just read somewhere that, even if my EOS version is rather old, it's STILL possible to load Akai S-1000 formatted CD-ROMS! Gosh, that would be good but...

Is that true? I don't want to spend any more money and find that it wasn't possible to do :( .

I apologize You all for this long post...

I will gladly receive replies from You all (mostly positive, thanks :p ).

Again, thank You all so much in advance.

Regards,
Fuz (from Italy).
My last 2 pennies will be spent in a musical instrument :) .

Heyas,

You can upgrade to version 3.0 without any extra FLASH. That will let you read S1000 CD-ROMs.

Keep an eye out for people selling the E-Synth ROM kit as this contains the required CPU flash kit to let you run 4.61 which is the last available revision for the non-ultras.

Hope that helps!

Thank You SO VERY MUCH for Your help!

Now i just need to find an helpful user that saves the EOS v3.0 Operating System on a floppy and send it to me (of course it will be payed for that :) ), alternatively, a good website that hosts EOS zipfiles.

Again, thank You so much for Your great responsiveness!

Regards,
Davide (from Italy).
