If I remember correctly, the 128-voice upgrade actually requires a new motherboard, since the socket for the second chip isn't there. Emu used to require you send your unit in to the factory for this.

If the above is correct, it would probably be easier (and not a lot more expensive) to buy an XT, considering the state of Emu these days.

thanks klaseed....i somehow had a feeling that someone was gonna say that. but seeing that i just upgrade my emu with the adat outs for use with my brand new tascam dm 24 ( which is sick BTW ), i don't want to overload myself by trying to relearn two things at once. :grumble:
the tascam is really, REALLY tough to get your head around, and the manual is SHIT. seems to be that the X is the way to go for compatability with todays tech  nology ..ez

I hear ya about the X, but just to clarify, I don't believe there are a whole lot of functional differences between a 6400 Ultra and an XT Ultra - just more output options, and more voices/MIDI channels. So the learning curve going from 6400 Ultra to XT Ultra would be minimal....

Good luck with the tascam, digital mixers are a bitch to learn  (but probably well worth it :slayer: )
