mmm, fun indeed it is.
i once tried the Adaptec SlimSCSI PCM/CIA to SCSI, and it worked well, from what i remember. there is a SlimSCSI 1480 and a 1460. don't know the difference, but the 1480 is twice the price.

when you get into it, you'll wanna read this if you don't know about all this already:

well, i would think the PC slot would be MUCH faster. unless the adapter was USB 2.0 and your computer's port was USB 2.0. otherwise, i would definitely NOT do USB 1.1 instead of a PCM/CIA slot!

NO It will NOT be much faster.

SCSI-2 is only rated at 10meg/sec burst, u is lookin at about 5meg/sec sustained max. Its down to the signaling on the bus which cant be made faster if the adapter was on USB 2 or Firewire 800.

However on USB 1.1 it may give u about 2-3 meg/sec sustained.

USB to SCSI

Postby Adam B » Fri Aug 13, 2004 10:01 pm

I have been trying to get USB to SCSI working with the e6400 ultra, but I'm sad to say that it just doesn't work. I've tried different tricks and configurations, but it seems we are limited to pcm cards. I will post if i ever get it working.

old thread here, but i'm wondering if Process got the Adaptec SlimSCSI card successfully working with the E4?
i'm considering getting one myself, had one in the past, but can't remember if it really worked or not.

Hey dug

I'm wondering the same thing - did anyone ever have any luck with the USB2-SCSI thing? I'm really really wanting to ditch my PC altogether, but that can't happen until I can connect to my Emu with my Mac.

i'm going to buy an adaptec slimscsi 1480 soon.
there's two, a 1460 and 1480.
i'm gathering that the 'twice the priced' 1480 is much faster but requires a "Card Bus enabled" something or another.
i think most PCM/CIA's out there are equipped with this.

i'll let you know how it goes...some fucker beat me in a brutal Ebay auction tonight else i'd have one coming soon.

Klaseed, i thought you used a desktop?

I used a PCMCIA SCSI card with my laptop connected to my ESI-32 for years and when I moved up to the E4, It still worked like a charm. I've long gotten rid of that laptop and hevent used the card since but I can attest that it works perfectly.
