I might sound realy daft,

I got mu E6400Ultra 3 weeks ago, when I came across ZoEOS, I downloaded the JAVA software + the demo. But when I had a look at it, I found the Emu itself a bit less confusing. I mean, maybe it's because I haven't figured out completely how to get the most out of my Emu, but for the moment, I think I'll keep on working from the tiny display, till I understand the machine a bit more, only then I think it would be wise for me to move to ZoEOS.

But it sure looks slick

you're not alone feeling like that. Hell, i even sold my first Ultra then bought it back because it was to difficult to work with.
My rescue was using SoundDiver, eventhough it doesnt support all the things in the latest os, you get a view of whats inside each voice that is good to learn from.
i havent used ZoEos yet, but ill buy it when the mac version comes out

Would have liked to use EOS Browser and Fileassitant though..anyone who knows if these programs are any good?

cheers

Damn I wish they finished EOS 4.7

Paul @Zuonics: My theory is that there is one of two things happening at E-MU.

1) Their minds have been completely commercialised by Creative control and they are now corporate drones with no other mental dexterity other than making money on consumer sound cards.

2) They are simply in a transition period, with sweet and ingenious plans to reinvent their sampler line in an orgasmic blend of hardware and software. The sound card phase is simply a period that will provide:

a) Cash flow
b) New customers form the teeny, home recording and pro market - a step from the proprietary high end mode they have operated in until now. Once this new extent is established and secured, something *big* will happen.

Think about it - all they have done is repackaged the E4 and the Proteus into respective software incarnations - there is nothing innovative or new in their current product line - and innovative products are what originally gave E-MU their reputation. I believe this is a transition - because if it isn't they truly have lost their best minds and have gone essentially stale.

The Emulator X at best is a good tool pitched with great financial value, but other than that does nothing to grab the attention of a discerning electronic musician who desires more than the functionality of an E4 Ultra - in fact you'll get better performance from an E4 Ultra.
