I just got a bunch of akai disks (backups) from a fellow for use on my E-mu 4XT Ultra.
My E-mu recognizes about one-third of them, and can easily play them.
However, my machine can't recognize the remaining disks at all.

Thinking this was a compatibility problem of some sort, I tried to get Toast on my Mac to recognize them. Toast could easily recognize the same ones my E-mu could, but would not recognize any of the ones that my E-mu couldn't.

The guy I got these from insists they are Akai format, and I can see that they are not blank CDs (they are obviously burned).

Any ideas -- other than I got some bum disks?

The late model AKAI's used a PC disk forman not the old AKAI proprietary one. I don't think the E4 will read those disks as an AKAI disk. Toast however will recognize the format it will not recognize the old AKAI format. So I suspect you have some disks made for or by a 5000/ 6000 series AKAI. Translator should at some point be a help on the Mac or as they have pointed out to me find a PC and do the conversion there.

I also have the same problem, but I found that some backup disks don't work unless you burn them at 1X speeds (depends on media and driver)
