E4X ROM question (Orbit/Phatt)

Postby tek_uk » Thu Jan 13, 2005 10:44 am

Hi all,

I just bought the 16Mo Orbit/Phatt Rom for my E4X from digital village (?69), ref 6821.
Got it yesterday and the box contains 2 Simms, 1 Rom Simm and 1 Ram??Simm. The manual says that it contains the Rom and the v3 upgrade.
Now, my E4X already have that upgrade (I'm on 4.62). So my question is, do I need to install both simms or just the Rom simm?
Haven't looked inside the machine but my guess is that there already is a OS Simm upgrade installed since when I got the machine I had a box labelled v3 upgrade!!!
I just want to make sure I don't downgrade my machine by installing both simms!
Any info would be appreciated

Thanks

Laurent

I would try it first without the SIM, worst case scenario, it wont work :)

Hey Laurent,

that's an awsome deal! By the sound of it you're using a Classic E4, not an Ultra version. If so, I'd really like to ask a favour - when I upgraded to an Ultra and bought replacement Orbit/Phatt ROMS I discovered that all the preset synth patches I was using had changed locations. I don't have a list of which patch was at which location, so if you've got the official patch list it would be a huge help. Please let me know if that's the case.

thanks a lot!

Dogcow, thanks very much for your help. I'll check in a moment, but i'm sure that is a list of the 500 patches in the Ultra orbit/phatt ROM. The classic ROM only had about 250 patches, and that's the list I need to see.

If anyone has that list i would be very grateful if i could get a copy.

Incidently, isn't it interesting that the emu-ensoniq.co.jp site consistantly holds important legacy information and downloads that emu has removed from all its other sites; rfx plugins, OS, patchlists, product info, etc..

i'm pretty sure that the Flash ROM is required to host the OS v4.0 and after. It also stores all patch presets and RFX effects. If you've got OS 4.62 already you must have the Flash ROM installed. You just need to copy the Orbit/Phatt patches across from the floppies.

By the way, any chance I could get a copy of those patch names? there should be a printed sheet in the box. cheers! ;)
