Hello! I'm a new forum member, having recently bought an E6400 ultra w/128mb ram and internal hard drive.

I have a small number of sample CDs, that I wanted to import some samples from, but not having the digital input board, I decided to digitalli import them into the sampler the "low-tech" way - rip them from the CDs usinf exact audio copy, loop them using tiny wave editor, and transfer the looped .wav files to the sampler using floppy discs. You probably get the idea that I'm on a low budget here!

There seem to be 2 problems w/this approach:

1/the E6400 will import the .wavs ok, except for the fact that ignores the loops I've carefully programmed, so, I figured I'd write down the loop start points, end points and loop lengths from the TWE program, and enter them directly from the loop page. This leads to...

2/ It doesn't work! IE, you get clicks at the loop point, where there were none when monitoring the loop in TWE.

Is there an offset, a number of samples I can add or subtract to/from the ones in TWE to make it work? It's quite frustrating!

I've heard rumours that the E-mu truncates .wav files by 2 samples.
Try leaving them slightly longer on the floppy, then truncate & loop in the E-mu.

man... i did that thing for a while until i gave up

emus sometimes crash while loading from floppy and the read speed is very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very slow...

however i got a cheap scsi card (adaptec 2904 i think) and a scsi cable for about 15? second hand...

with a program like soundforge you can send files to your sampler using this rather simple and cheap setup

another more expensive way is to buy a iomega zip for your pc and another for the emu

the emu one has to be scsi (i think), for the pc choose ide internal (if you can find one)

you'll also need chickensys translator for this... check the demo at their site

iomegas are very cheap second-hand and usually come wih free disks (i got on ide internal one for less than 5? in ebay: people who have them don't think they are much valuable... if only they had a hardware sampler, lololo )

I agree, I used Zip100 for ages but it died. I managed to pick one up on ebay for ?1.24 though, and got a Jaz 2GB drive for around ?20, just for good measure.
Now i'm in storage heaven.
You're right, the E-mu doesn't like floppies, mine spits them on to the floor when you eject!
