...I wonder if this would work. Suppose I go and purchase a scsi to usb adaptor. The usb part would be female. Suppose I go and get a flash drive, you know, those little pen shaped devices that hold information, then suppose I hook it up to my emu, I wonder if it would reconize it.

If it did, storage problems wouldn't be an issue at all. I could load my banks and samples and such and then download them to the flash drive then stick that into the usb port, then use ChickenSys Translator to burn myself some back up and read only cds for my cd drive that I have daisey chained with my zip. I might just have to try this out. The highest I would go would be a 256 meg flash, and considering how cheap they are right now, it might be well worth it. Especially if it saves me having to put a scsi card into computer, then load the drivers for the zip, which are really really old, and the drivers for the scsi card and so on.

I just wonder if this works. Has anyone though about trying this? If you have, tell me how it went. If no one has, then when I give it ago I will let you guys know.

best way iv found to back up me stuff is with a ide hard drive
so easy to fit u dont need no special housing or nothing
all u need do is change the power wire (so easy if any need help gimme a buzz)
but the main thing to do is format in fat on your emu
then u can disconect the hd from emu then connect the hd to pc
if u are going to do this there is a few things need done ie when using chicken tranlator to make emu files if i rember right they all come out b00 or something
u need rename all presets to b00 b01 b02 ect or something
i got a good renameing program that does it in secs
if any wanna try it gimme a shout and il make a good tutorail

i did have just zip drive when i got the emu but now added hd + scsi to pc i dont even touch me zip drive no more
and un screwing a few screws to get the hd out once in a while aint to bad
esecialy if u got cds worth of stuff to back up or samples to add to hd

il take my hd out tonight and tell u guys the layout ect
always rember format fat not emu
if u do format emu your pc wont see it
i put a 120gig hd in me emu and relised dont need as much as that so now i got a 20 g out my old pc in it and works great
thats in a emu e 6400 ultra

the problem is that unless your sample library is static, you'll be always rocking the HD back and forth from the emu to the PC

in... +/- 80Gb there's about 1Gb wich moves quite a lot :/

Did it work ? So basically you can also plug a big USB harddisk in there (I don't know what the limit is for EOS) ? Hope it worked out for you !

I need to buy the cable. I purchased the flash drive about a week ago. It is awesome. I have a gig of space on that little thing.

I will give it ago with maybe a 128 meg one that cost 20 bucks just incase the emu does something to the drive.

If you are connected to the emu via scsi, a simpler way to back up is to install a scsi hd in the pc. The emu can then see this drive as part of the chain and you can then save to it from the emu. This drive can also be seen from the pc and the files can be backed up onto dvd etc.

There are IDE flash card readers that might do the work. An alternative would be to use a floppy adapter where you could read/write the cards... In fact that might be a nice idea! Hhmm... looking for such a thingy...

Im afraid USB won't work, as you have to distinguish between master and slave. A SCSI-Adapter is on the slave side, as well as a usb harddisk. You'll need a master (like a pc) to drive the USB master, i assume...
