the endless path of the drum search

Postby palamino chuck » Fri Feb 18, 2005 5:29 pm

Okay,

I picked up the Xtreme Hiphop sample cd which has a decent selection of drum kits and i got dance mega drums (bunch of old school drum machine kits) heading my way in a couple of weeks.

I have also been sampling drums off of customized drum hits in reason, my triton & my fantom...eq'ing/compressing/distressing the hell out of them and dropping them into the e-mu. this is a nice tactic but definitely time consuming.

i was curious as to what you guys were doing for obtaining your drums.
also if there are any particular sample cd's of drum hits and kits you recommend, please let me know.

a quality drum archive is without a doubt, one of the most crucial aspects for those who make any kind of beats. my instincts are telling me that there are few short cuts...so it seems one must be a blacksmith and forge their sounds to their liking over time.

i am going to have to devote separate days just to creating, processing, and sorting drum noises out. this can be a real chore but the end result is well worth it.

fuck a social life, i want my noises to thump!!

Can you actually really use these copyrighted loops on your tracks without MCPS on your back ?

I just buy old funk and jazz cd's and records and sample breaks and chop them up. If something is missing, like the break i am using now had a really bassy kick but hardly no attack, I find a break that has a kick with a good attack on it and band pass it using the emu's FIR to clean every thing out but the attack and layer it with my original kick, which I will FIR as well to get the waves going the right way.
