Hi.

I started working with my new ultra 5000. It freezes VERY often saying something like Gentrap error. I have to reboot my machine and I lose my edits :(

I tried to test memory test and it freezes everytime then! I assume that this is a uncompatible memory issue? I bought this used, no wonder it was cheap...

sw version is 4.10a.
It has 128 megs mem installed.

Any suggestions?
Should I order new RAM and try with that?

I came looking for answers to this same problem. I had already reseated the RAM, flash memory and all of the connections. I booted with no ram and still got the Gen Trap error. I noticed that it would happen when I would jump from one menu to the next quickly but it would not happen on any one particular menu.

Having just purchased the sampler used, I thought I was sent a lemon. Since the problem was occurring when I pushed the buttons quickly I decided to look at that first.

Upon investigation, I noticed that the ribbon cable to the front panel was rubbing the chassis. It had not rubbed all the way through but it was apparently enough to cause grounding of the cable. This is due to the misalignment of the cutout for the cable and the pins on the main board. It had probably become worse after shipping. I moved the clamp back some and repositioned the cable so that it was no longer in contact with the chassis. This seems to have solved the problem.

I loaded the flash prep, 4.61 EOS and installed a 9gb hard drive. I could smear every button on the front panel in one big fat fingered mess with no Gen trap error. I don't know if this will help but it is something anoyone with this problem should look at. This was all on a 6400 Ultra.
