Sound ROM 6820 & 6821 in Ultra series...Is it Possible

Postby yuppy » Thu Mar 02, 2006 7:04 pm

Hi,
E-mu Ultra series takes 6870 and 6871 Sound ROMs ( E-synth & Orbit / Mo-Phatt ) I have the same sound ROMs but they are 6820 and 6821 which was supposed to be for E6400 and E4x older models..I've heard that you can actually use them in the Ultras and It works fine..Is that true ? Is the model numbers are just different because of the period of time they were issued and the actual ROMs are identical ? If anyone knows about this please help...Thanks

I mailed emu about this, and this is what they said:

Dear Ole,

If the ESynth ROM is the one from your ESYnth Rack in the first place,
then this will work in the Ultra samplers. If however, the ROM board
comes from the original EIV/E64 samplers, then the ROM board will not
work in the Ultra machines and might damage the ROM or the machine.

So - as long as the ESynth is the original ROM board from your ESynth
unit, then it will work fine in the Ultra samplers.

I hope that this information helps you out.

So, don't put roms made for E-IV or E64 in you Ultra. But, roms from E6400 and E4X would work.

Well, other roms will fit I believe, but if you for example take a card for the proteus 2000 range and put it in your emu you will only be able to read the samples, not the presets. Correct me if I'm wrong.
