E6400 - RFX ADAT won't work unless HD is connected, Huh?

Hi,

I recently pulled my E6400 Ultra back into service, or at least I'm trying to, ...

I've ust fixed the rotary encoder problem with a few capacitors and now I've stumbled across another problem .... this time with the ADAT expansion of the RFX card.

Symptom:

No sound/clock data from ADAT card.

Obs:

SN is 1461 ... but a "signature" by an enthusiastic EMU assembler has signed that it was assembled by LOGANN on the 18th April 2000

ADAT card present at boot, E6400 detects card is installed.

ADAT outputs emit red light, so ADAT card is powered.

Connecting ADAT outputs from E6400 to ADAT input on 02R shows no signal, ie cannot select ADAT from E6400 as clock source.

OK, so the lights are on, little red glows at the other end of the ADAT cables, not a cable issue. So, no data is being sent from the E6400 .... eh ... confused.

More:

During my rotary encoder fix session I disconnected the power to the internal 3.5" IDE hard drive I'd fitted several years ago. Playing on a hunch, I plugged the power back into the HD and rebooted the E6400. The ADTAT card is now sending data to the O2R and can select the ADAT output from the E6400 as a clock source. So its all working now.

I then disconnected the HD and rebooted, the ADAT card was no longer sending data (O2R could not see any data) ...

I suspect that when the HD is powered it pulls the 12 or 5 volt rail up a notch which gives the ADAT card a boost and hence works properly. Without the HD, the 12/5 volt rails must be low.

I'm no tech, so I can't fully diagnose the problem. Anyone else had similar issues or could offer some advice on a fix? ...

Cheers.

Power.

To much Options for this Maschines

Only the "Ultra-Serie" Emu`s have enough Power/Risc for all Option Cards and Fittings.
