E4K sequencer question

Postby gcoudert » Thu Dec 28, 2006 8:04 pm

Hi!

I'd better introduce myself first. My name's Gilles. I'm French but have lived in the UK for 16 years. I'm 39 years old and enjoy making music, just for fun.

Having owned an Esi4000 for several years, I have just acquired a second-hand E4K. I have manage to work out where everything is except for one thing, that the manual does not mention at all:

How do you edit a sequence, erase a track, etc. on the E4K?

Mine runs under EOS 2.8f, has 128Mb sample RAM and 1Mb of Flash ROM only. I also use an external Gb hard drive as well as the built-in 270Mb drive.

Is there an esay/safe way to clean the button contacts?

Can anybody help?

Thanks,

Gilles

Other gear used: Akai S1000 (10Mb), S2800i (32Mb) + shared HD, Yamaha TX7, Roland D550, Yamaha P150 digital piano, ART Multiverb SE, Foster 16 channel line mixer, PC running Cubase VST 32 under Windows 98SE and an Atari emulator to run the TX7 editor(!)... and the E4K!

You can get a PDF copy of the full E4K manual from E-mu's web site (the link to the area for "legacy" hardware is down at the very bottom of the support page).

Here's a direct link to the legacy support page. Then just find the link for the E4K (first one in the "keyboards" section), slide through the "PC/Mac" selection screen, and you'll get the page with both the E4K original manual and the later EOS 4.0 manual. You'll also find the actual EOS downloads (although I can't say which version you're able to run...)

As for cleaning the contacts/buttons... I have no idea. The rack units the contacts for the front panel buttons hidden away behind a metal plate, and I couldn't get the plate off (although, admittedly, I didn't try very hard or for very long).

Whith 1Mb of Flash ROM only you can use EOS version 3.0b.
For EOS 4.62 you need 2Mb of Flash ROM.

Thanks, the EOS upgrade (3.0), found elsewhere on this forum cured the sequencer problem.
