Well, first I'd have to ask where you got that EOS, because E-mu only released up to version 4.7

When you say you tried turning it off and on but the screen is stuck... OK, is the screen the first thing that comes up when you power on? Or is there a flash of the Boot program doing it's little dance and then the checksum error comes up? If it's the latter, I'm afraid it might be a problem with the FlashRAM the EOS resides in (CPU RAM I think E-mu calls it). I think there was a thread on the board last summer where a guy had the exact same problem.

It could be something else, I suppose... if you have a diskette of the old version of the EOS, you could try to power-on with that in the drive and see if it will let you re-install the older version. If it still just gives you a checksum error on power up than I'd go back to suspecting the CPU RAM. And I really don't know what to suggest for that sort of problem.

hey, your right, my mistake. it was 4.7
the screen does it's dance, boot, then it says check sum failed, then floopy disc found, then checking floppy drive, then initializing floppy, then checking software...and it does this over and over with out a disc in the floppy drive. i don't have the original EOS. this e4xt ultra is EOS 4.0.
the problem is i didnt install the flash prep before i put in the .zip file with EOS 4.7, and i didnt look at the 4.7 docs for install instructions, instead i followed the instructions from my 4.0 manuel. so i really screwed up....
im pretty sure i fried my flash ram, or is it rom? there is a guy who repairs for emu. he is out of florida. im trying to see if i can buy new flash ram for the e4xt ultra. i can install it my self, and then i can start over up grading to EOS 4.7

thank you for responding,
aaron

Ok......this is starting to get annoying!

After I inserted the Flash Prep disk and turned the unit on, I started getting this csum error!

Now, my unit won't even boot up at all!

Damnit! :grumble:

Well, luckily I have a friend that has an E5000 sitting around. I guess I'll part it out and do the whole process of elimination until I find the solution.

Anyone else know the reason why this might happen; or, the remedy?

I'll let you know what I figure out as soon as I can. It's gonna be a few days until I get my hands on the E5000 my friend has.

I just replaced the FLASH in my E4XT and everything's back to normal!

Does anyone know where I can get more FLASH just in case this happens again? Eventually, I have to replace the FLASH I took out of this E5000 so it works again.....

Thanks for the help! The board has been very helpful!
