Any problems with your Ultra sampler should be reported here, hopefully someone might know what's wrong.

front panel controls arent working

Postby Scott B » Tue Nov 06, 2007 7:39 am

Hi, new Hardware e-mu user here. really enjoyed the Emu-x but I felt it was time to pickup one of these lovely hardware pieces.

so I've got an e-mu E4XT Ultra and the problem that I'm having is that none of the front controls page through parameters. I can navigate through most of it useing an ASCII keyboard but some of the manuals directions are just easier to follow by using the front panel controls.

the unit is pretty damn mint so I'm assuming there is some internal internal option that's been switched (hopefully). it still has the plastic cover over the front glass and everything else seems to work fine.

I'm not sure where to go from here. any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm sure I read on here somewhere that someone else had the same problem with an E-mu they'd just received.

They opened it up and a connector had come loose.

Have a look inside the sampler and/or search the site.

I've been using E-mu's for about 10 years now and as far as I know there is no function to turn off the front panel. Seems like it's in good condition, from your description, so the logical answer would be that a connector has come loose during shipping.

thanks, I just recieved an email back from the previous owner and this is what he had to say: "

Try this:
Turn off power to E4. Unplug 15 seconds and plug back in. Turn on power.
Press MASTER, UTILS, TESTS
then enter the secret password 1-3-5-8 then press "ok".
Press MORE then InitEE. The display should read "Inittialize EE?"
Press "OK" and the display should read "saving system"
Press "MASTER" to exit
Recalibrate the E4 Controls (see page 68 of manual) "

I'm guessing that it came unhooked though since none of the menu buttons on the front respond but maybe it needs to be recalibrated as well. I know i did get the volume knob to register on recalibration but that was sort of a fluke getting to that page since I don't know many of the corresponding keys on the ASCII keyboard.

Thanks again and I'll report back with my findings

They're in the manual. I use an ASCII keyboard too and I got used to the various kays and shortcuts very quickly.

yo, so turns out the front panel ribbon cable came off completely during shipping. I guess I expect about as much from being shipped with UPS. well sweet! it works fine! :slayer:
