E6400 Memory problem - I cry

Postby katzinhatz » Sun Oct 19, 2008 1:35 pm

Hey all

My E6400 Keeps saying I only have 2 meg sample memory when theres a 64 meg rom in there, the same if I add another for 128, I've tried a few dif sticks (and put 2 in at the same time) and its the same, previously it was detecting 64 meg, I think I may have bust it as I found a little tricky slotting them in..

Any ideas? If anyone can fit new ram tracks or something I can pay, otherwise this is sadly going in the bin..pretty useless if I can use more than 2 meg ram :(

any advice?

Edit, just had it back open, could see some bent pins in the slot, straightened them out but makes no dif, cant work out why it would detect 2 meg for a 64 meg dim? HELP ME I CRY!

No, not sure about this. You should try going into the test-mode, or whatever it's called, can't recall it at the moment, and test the ram. There should be an option for that somewhere.

heya matie

i had a problem with my ram

and believe me i nearly cried also

have you seen how much that ram is going for

well the higher end stuff its 72 pin simm memory,

anywhoo
did you try and put in a rom- sound bank?
thats what i done, and it said 64 insted of 128

also if you have managed to switch the dram near the flash memory (it may say advance on it)

if that is installed in the first Dram slot where the roms are aswell (more near the left side of the unit) then it would only read 2 meg's
if you put it back next to the one where the flash is then place the rest of the ram back in the slots near left of the sampler
you should be fine

hope that kind of troubleshooted two

See my reply in your other thread; that was normal - RAM is halved when you put in a ROM card. Not sure about the 2Mb RAM though.

Very interesting... Does the E4XT do the same (halving the ram)?

I guess so but then I'm only familiar with the E4K. Maybe somebody else can confirm/infirm this?

I tested my E6400 Ultra and E4XT Ultra, both with 128MB RAM, and both exhibited the same behavior: RAM is halved to 64MB when adding ROMs. Adding two ROMs or more did not decrease the RAM below 64MB though.
The ROMs I used were:

WO#E41755
AP530-00
ISIS

and

WO# E41646
AP530-01
ISIS.
