Any problems with your Ultra sampler should be reported here, hopefully someone might know what's wrong.

A few newbie questions (re: Ultra e5000)

Postby FoxVernon » Wed Oct 07, 2009 11:30 pm

Greetings from Alexandria, VA, USA.

I just bought myself a e5000 for using at live gigs, and I have a few questions. I know I need to read the manual, but I thought I might get some quick help, too.

1. The guy who sold me the unit said he thought it had an internal hard drive, though he wasn't entirely sure. I'm wondering if there is a quick way to check this. I can open it up too, which I'll likely do. When I try to see the disk, it looks like it is only reading the floppy. [Edit on 10-7-09: I checked under the hood, and it has a 4.3GB hard drive mounted. Connections seem snug. I guess I need to figure out how to access it.]

2. I need some kind of drive with this unit, so I'm thinking of getting a CF Card reader kit from http://www.scsiforsamplers.com/. Any comments on this?

3. I want to test that the unit can make sound. Is their a demo, or some other easy way to do this?

Many thanks!

...while I'm at it, I was speaking to a friend today, and he said he had an old emu sampler, but had lost the 5 1/4" boot disk. Anyone know a place to pick those up? I need to find out exactly what model it is, but I was just wondering where if anywhere those can be found?

Okay, I made a sample and heard some sound from my e5000, so that's exciting. It truly does sound warm and luscious. Nice!

Still curious why the internal ide hard drive isn't registering with the machine. WhenI press "Disk/Browse" I only see the internal floppy, and it is shown as "D9" which seems strange, since in the manual, the floppy usually shows as D8.

Any ideas. I guess I need to test the drive to see if it works. That'd be wise.

[Edit:] Oooo....I upgraded to EOS 4.70. Yeah, I did something right!

Installed CF Card Reader from scsiforsamplers.com. It rocks.

I've used Translator Free to take banks off Emu CD-Rom (E4 Ultra Production Set Backup Data). About 3/4 work fine, the other 1/4 have a bug that Garth and Chicken Systems is looking for. Whenever these are loaded, the sampler display: "Sample Memory Full."

Hi !
Maybe you should try to check if you give enough memory to the sequences, if there's more than 10 sequences that type of error happens, even if your bank is less than 128 Mo.
