D.A.W to e6400 Signal Flow

Postby holmes » Sun Apr 10, 2011 9:16 pm

Hiya,
Im still trying to get up and running with my e6400 classic. I am having trouble figuring out signal flow arrangements that can allow me to record samples from my D.A.W (logic) into my 6400 sampler and then visa versa how to create a signal flow that will allow me to record the output of my emu e6400 back into my D.A.W (logic). As things stand I am outputting from my Emu to an old pioneer mixer then from the mixer i am going to the inputs of my audio interface with a midi output from my interface to my emu. Would a solution to my signal flow issue be to have an output from my interface going to an input on the emu via quarter inch jacks, then visa versa to get the output from emu back into my D.A.W. I hope people can understand what im getting at. If anybody could give me a working example of how they set up there signal flow that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you guys!

On an audio channel on logic if you want to send a audio signal into the emu select output 3-4 for instance and wire your cables from your interfaces outputs 3-4 to you emu.

If you want to hear your emu set the input to 3-4 and click the little "i" on the channel strip which is input monitoring so you'll be able to hear your emu.

If you want to send midi messages from logic so your emu plays with the song setup an external midi instrument track.

A little vague but you'll have to get a better understanding of routing in and out of logic

Cheers Jamie,
I do need to get my head around signal routing more.. In terms of the midi messaging can I have one cable carrying the midi data going from my interfaces output to the emus midi input? will that do it? or do i need 2 cables to connect both inputs and outputs of my emu and interface.? Thanks for the help.

HI just one cable out to your emu from your audio interface. So "out" on the interface to "in" on the emu

What interface do you have someone might be able to help you a little better.

Cheers Jamie

Thanks Jamie.
I have a Roland Cakewalk UA-25. is it possible to have the output of my EMu connected to my inteface using the same method? I have been seeing alot of stuff about SCSI cards, seeing how they are pretty rare Im hoping that I can do it another way.
Cheers,

By the looks of your audio interface. All you need to do is connect the audio main outs from your emu to the in 1-2 on the ua25. then a midi cable from the out of your ua25 to the in of your emu. You dont require any scsi. Your using logic which i also use so setting it up is easy when you know how.
