EOS upgrade. 4.61 or 4.70 ?

Postby Zenkodo » Sun Aug 07, 2011 12:29 am

I'm about to upgrade my e6400 Ultra from EOS 4.02. I'm just wondering if anyone has views on whether to go straight to ver 4.70 or 4.61 . Are there any problems with either, that I should be aware of?

I'd be grateful for any feedback.
Thanks

Decided to go for 4.61

Put flash prep disk in. It asked if I wanted to update flash from floppy and I pressed enter. Immediately it says 'read err sector 0" and would go any further.

Emu wouldn't boot up. Horror! Fortunately it booted fine from my 4.02 backup disk and all seems to be working as before.

Any ideas what's gone wrong? Could it just be a bad floppy? I must say, seeing the e6400 Ultra fail to boot was a pretty low point.

Any feedback would be most welcome.

I love 4.70, even with its bugs.
It works with fat formatted drives, so cheap Internal laptop IDE drives with over 100 gig of storage can easily be installed into the ultra.
External fat formatted drives connected via SCSI can be used for superfast transfer of large files between a computer and the ultra.
Real-time control of resonance.
Plus loads more stuff that by far out-way any bugs you may read about.
There is much written about this subject in the threads, go read.

Wahay! Panic over.
I started again with a different floppy. Made sure I ran everything from the root of drive C:
It's worked. Ver 4.61 booting fine.

Thanks to emusonacid! for all the Info.

@JAHFUNK
Thanks for that feedback. As you'll see above, I've gone up to 4.61 for now and I'll live with that for now. I've no hard drive-in the machine at the moment so Im interested in your feedback as I will want to put one in soon.
I don't have RFX card either. Am I right most of the 4.70 bugs are RFX related ?

I have the RFX card, and totally agree with Jahfunk.. i have installed a 40 or 80 gb (don't remember) laptop hard drive (ide), so my sampler is rather quiet aswell except the psu-fan!

I think all problems regarding 4.7 is around RFX. So in your case you only have gains on going to 4.7
