connect EMU 6400 Ultra to a MPC via SCSI

Postby tarelizer » Wed May 01, 2013 11:45 am

hey there,

i just want to hook my EMU Ultra Sampler to my MPC2000XL.

with search functions on forums i found these threads

I read the manual of MPC and the EMU. in the manual from the MPC its only described how to connect HD Drives, Zips, CD Roms etc.

The EMU have a "avoid host on ID" function, to have one more SCSI Host in a chain.

I have SCSI4Sampler Solution inside the EMU, EOS 4.7, CF Card formatted to FAT . I want to load Wave Files, E4 Presets, SND Files and PGMs on the CF Card.

Via SCSI i want to load the MPC Files from the CF Card inside the Emulator.

I have a Centronics 50PIN to HP HD50PIN to connect both Units.

Does anyone connected a EMU Sampler directly to a MPC???

and no, i dont want to modify my mpc. its an option, but i think about a 3000 or a 60. So with this method i can save time and headaches to find a good and cheap ACARD Bridge.

not sure if this will help.. i have an akai s1100 with a scsi CF reader installed. i just made sure all the devices were set to unique scsi id's and it seems to work alright. for some reason i can only see the first volume on the akai partition with the emu. if i try to switch volumes (or folders as that is what the emu sees them as) the emu freezes. probably has more to do with the cf reader than anything else... anyway, more than likely what your trying to do is possible!

that sounds intersting. you see only the first volume of cf card??

yeah.. actually it probably has something to do with the akai s1100 or communication over the scsi bus between the two.. the emu see's akai partitions as folders and the only way i can access the akai formatted cf card from the emu us to go to the disk menu, select the cf card and press 'load'. if i try to browse folders, or switch the folder the emu will freeze up!
not an issue for me because i normally just transfer samples to the akai from my computer via scsi or a CF->USB adapter. with the emu i use the icydock solution jahfunk posted in the
i don't know.. you'll have to try it out. sounds like you have all you need - have you tried it yet? how does it work for you? does the MPC read FAT? if so maybe that will work better because you won't be dealing with akai partitions.
i bet it would work better if the SCSI CF reader was in an external enclosure.. then you could easily switch between the two.

well,

i use the MPC as a Sequencer since the EMU has way more capabilities as a sampler of course.

To connecting the MPC to the EMU would save me one more Card Reader in the system.

Its very easy to install an ide to cf card reader into a MPC 2000XL, cause you can plug the CF Reader to the internal IDE port. Together with the SCSI port from the MPC its easy to start / join a SCSI Chain. Unfortunatly its not possible to transfer data between to samplers via SCSI, as you dont use a Zip Drive or SCSI Drive Unit with two SCSI ports.

When i get a MPC60 or a MPC3000 this idea would save a lot effort to get a PCD25, ACARD Bridge etc.
