Just wondering what everyone is running their EMU's(and other gear) into?

I have mine routed to a patch bay then patched straight into my RME Fireface.
The 8 analog inputs and patchbay combo work well for my needs but im tempted to get a mixer so i can have more running at once, without the need to render audio as often.

and of course there are the benefits of an analogue desk sound... mmm gain!!

Has anyone here used or own the Mackie Onyx? I like the look of those

I am doing the same as you more or less. Staight into my fw soundcard (tc konnekt 24D). I dont use the multiple out that much. i like to mix down. Gives me more controll over the sound in the mix.

But i am having a Presonus TubePre (tube mic preamp, mono only), which i sometimes run my gear through to warmen up the sound.

Fostex 16-channel line mixer with ART Multiverb Alpha SE effects unit.

1+2: E4K Main
3+4: E4K Sub 1
5+6: Yamaha P150
7: Yamaha DX7
8: Yamaha TX7
9+10: Akai S1000
11+12: Akai S2800i
13+14: Roland D550
15+16: PC soundcard (VST instruments Pro53, B4, PPG Wave 2.V)

Fed into Cubase VST 32 (except 15+16 of course) via Terratec DMX 6-Fire when recording.

Gilles, So am i right in thinking you route out of the computer and into the mixer? Then record the output back into the computer for recording finished tracks

Do you get any problems with timing or latency?

I use my Alesis Multimix 12 firewired to the computer. It's small and sturdy, and cheap. The mic preamps are ok, but not something to record an album on. It sends all the 12 tracks + the master to the computer, so it got room for all my e-synths rack outputs at once:)

Obviously, the VST instruments are recorded internally, but I do route the computer into the mixer for playing around. I have never noticed any timing or latency problems. I rarely record these days, but when I do, I record external audio track by track for mixing purposes.

I am routing my AU's (audio units, like vst only the mac/logic standard) through external gear for warmup, and recording them back. Latency isn't a problem, but it all depends on soundcards and drivers. I very often mix the plug-in down as soon as i am happy with it. Either using the tube-preamp with overdrive, or an external korg AM 8000R effect prosessor i am very keen of.. Yesterday i actually tried routing the plugins through the rfx32, and i must say that the emu has some realy realy good effects.. but i got the outburst too much, so i ended up not using it.

aaah yes my baby. its nice to live in a place with a bad economy when youre doing well... things go cheap. i love used gear!

Currently running into a Mackie SR32-4, occasionally warming stuff through a H&K BATT and an Orban 642b, although planning on getting a couple more pre's and a decent comp like a Distressor or something. An 1178 would be ideal. Also looking at something with a smaller footprint and better signal path like a small Trident. I'm still a hardware guy. Not big into VSTs or any of that stuff. Maybe some sound treatment in Wavelab or something, but in general computers tend to sound like....computers. That's why I use an E-mu. It sounds like an instrument, and my mixer doesn't crash. It never has conflicts. It just works or it crackles if I don't take care of it.
